FIA opens pantry in Dexter

Faith in Action has secured space in Dexter to open a satellite food pantry.
Working with representatives of several churches and Dexter Family Services, the staff at FIA is pleased to report that the former Colorbok office space at 2740 Baker Road will open as a food pantry next month.
"Faith in Action has served the Dexter community from its Chelsea location for nearly 20 years, but this will give better service to our Dexter people and make donations easier to keep the pantry stocked as well," said Nancy Paul, FIA director.
Initial plans are to be open two half days each week with hours yet to be determined.
The first step for preparing to open the pantry is some cosmetic cleaning and painting, and these crews are currently being organized by the committee that studied and helped get the idea off the ground last November. Following these renovations, churches will be asked to help chip in for the initial stocking of the pantry and to set up a schedule to keep it stocked throughout the year.
Faith in Action is a faith based, community supported, assistance and resource center for families and individuals who need a helping hand. It serves the area within the Chelsea and Dexter school districts.
People in need of emergency food will be able to access either FIA location, and staff will be available at both locations to help with other emergency needs such as utility shutoffs and evictions.
